BRANDING, COLLATERAL, WEBSITE, ENVIRONMENTAL GRAPHICS
Home to Australia’s most comprehensive textile and fibre art collection, Ararat Gallery TAMA (Textile Art Museum Australia), the Ararat Rural City Council engaged BrandWorks to build two unique brands that required strategic unity and visual independence for TAMA and the Ararat Performing Arts Centre. Often working in collaboration with high-profile institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria and Craft Victoria, the Ararat Gallery exhibits an innovative program and required an identity to reflect its cultural, regional, and historical position while maintaining unity to the Arts Centre.
Williams Boag Architects were engaged to redevelop the existing site, and their approach mirrored our own. To honour the Ararat people and heritage, the monogram “A” brandmark was designed to echo the stencilled wool bales ubiquitous to the town. The use of two contemporary fonts from leading foundries, Sharp and Grilli Type, distinctly position the brand in the present and consider relevancy for the future. The monochrome colour palette reflects the clean white interior of the Art Gallery and both compliments and stands in stark contrast to the black box interior of the Arts Centre theatre. A vivid supporting colour palette was chosen for the Gallery due to its ability to respond to the imagery and needs of each new exhibition.
